F1 2026 Title Fight Explained

Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli leads the 2026 Formula 1 championship by 102 points with six races to go. Here is where the title fight stands after Singapore, who is chasing him, and what the run-in looks like.

Mercedes also leads the constructors’ championship on 578 points, ahead of Ferrari (444), McLaren (339), Red Bull (332) and Racing Bulls (100).

How the fight got here

Antonelli came to Singapore with an 89-point lead over his Mercedes team-mate Russell and left with 102, after finishing third behind winner Max Verstappen, who led from lights to flag, and Leclerc in second. Verstappen’s Singapore win lifted him to fourth in the standings, but at 119 points back he is no longer a realistic title contender.

Can Antonelli clinch in Austin?

RacingNews365 reports that Antonelli could be crowned champion as early as the next round, the United States Grand Prix. The exact scenario depends on his finish, his rivals’ results and the points available over the remaining rounds, and we have not independently confirmed the maths. We will update this page after the race.

The six races left

  • United States Grand Prix, Circuit of the Americas, Austin: October 25
  • Mexico City Grand Prix: November 1
  • Brazilian Grand Prix, Interlagos: November 8
  • Las Vegas Grand Prix: November 21-22 (sources differ by a day)
  • Qatar Grand Prix, Lusail: November 29
  • Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Yas Marina: December 6

What to watch

Watch the Mercedes team-mate battle, Ferrari’s push for second in the constructors’ championship, and whether Verstappen and Red Bull can keep winning late in the season. Our Phoenix and Austin preview covers Lando Norris’s warning that McLaren is a long way off before Austin.

The Africa angle

Formula 1 is working toward a return to Africa, with Rwanda’s circuit planned for the early 2030s. For East African fans, that would put a Grand Prix a short flight from Nairobi.
